Wii tops game console sales in US

Recent market research indicated that sales of Nintendo’s Wii game console outperformed those of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation3 (PS3) in January 2007 in the US.
Sales of the Wii in the US reached 294,000 in January, whereas sales for the Xbox 360 and PS3 were 294,000 and 244,000, respectively, during the same period according to the NPD Group. The research firm estimated that the total sales amount of next-generation game consoles in the US grew 161% on year to US$505 million.
Statistics from research firm VG Charts also showed the buoyant sales of the Wii. VG Charts estimated that sales of the Wii hit 485,000 in North America in January, whereas the Xbox 360 was 332,250 and PS3 275,500. Accumulated sales of the three game consoles in North America up to January were 1.73 million, 5.4 million and 1.03 million for the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3, respectively.
